CITIZEN History:
In 1924,the “Shokosha Watch Research Institute”produced its first pocket watch. The then Mayor of Tokyo, Mr. Shimpei Goto, named the watch CITIZEN with the hope that, such luxury items would be widely available to ordinary citizens and to be sold throughout the world. In 1930, this was adopted as the name of the company as well. In 1956, Citizen introduced the first ever shock resistant watch named Parashock. Three years later, Parawater was known as the country’s first water resistant watch. Since 1993, Citizen has been serving as the official timekeeper and the official watch of the US open tournament. Citizen has also sponsored the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, which took place Italy(2007).
